The race does not exist is a music video by Pascal Lièvre shot in black and white, in 4/3 format. It uses the aesthetic codes of Angela Davis videos of the early 1970s, especially in its very tight framing. A woman facing the camera sings a text by the philosopher Achille Mbembe from his book Critique de la raison nègre on the music of Shine bright like a diamond by the Barbedian singer, Rihanna.
Achille Mbembe is a philosopher theoretician of post-colonialism, political scientist, historian and Cameroonian university teacher. In this book he proposes to put an end to the notion of race by proposing to the West and Africa another posture on difference. A critic already active in the field of Black Feminism with among others that of Angela Davis.
